Koss Fit Series and Working out with an Olympian

May 9, 2013 by applesandarteries

Yesterday I had the fun opportunity to attend the launch of the Koss Fit Series headphones.  It’s a new product line designed for women, by women, and made by Koss–the Milwaukee-based high fidelity stereophone manufacturer and inventor of the world’s first SP/3 stereophone in 1958.  The gentleman pictured below is Koss founder Mr. John Koss–he’s a great example of being Fit4Life!

The great thing about the Koss Fit Series is it’s developed to meet the frequently overlooked demographic in the headphone and consumer electronics industry – women. To support the product’s daily wear and tear that can be expected for women on-the-go, Koss’ female designers teamed-up with Dara Torres to help design the product line.

That’s right–the 5-time Olympian Dara Torres.

You may recognize some familiar faces who were also at the launch–fellow FitFluential Ambassadors Tina, Skinny Runner, Veronica, and Margaux.

Dara Torres spoke about her involvement with designing the headphones.  She’s been a long-time user of headphones and is excited to help launch a product that takes into account that women have smaller ear openings and the Koss product is made to stay in place and they are sweat-proof, too!

After the product launch, we were invited to participate in a spin class and try out the ear clip headphones.

These easily fit and wrap around your ears so they stay in place.  And they come with 3 different size ear cushions so you can customize your fit. These are all about comfort, design, and quality.  They need to fit well otherwise music won’t sound as great as it should!

Dara walked around to make sure everyone had a good fit and she answered questions before we all started to work up a sweat at the Elite Sports Club.

srIt was fun to get a great workout while using the headphones.  They stayed in place the entire time I was on the bike and were very comfortable.

Dara was rockin’ on the bike and later said spin is one of her favorite workouts.

Here’s the FitFluential team post workout.

Then it was time to talk with Dara.  She was very friendly and gracious to answer our questions and talk about fitness, headphones, and life.

I asked her what she was surprised by/learned when she started working with Koss--she said that she didn’t know the company had made the first headphones and she also really appreciated being so involved in the design process of the Fit Series.  She picked the colors of the new products and is happy to finally have headphones that really fit–and she assured us she’s spent time jumping, running, and trying to shake out the headphones.  She can’t!  They stay in place.

Dara also talked to us about her current fitness routine.  She said she has a “woman cave”--it’s her at-home fitness studio where she has TRX, an elliptical arc, 2 spin bikes, body blades, Bosu, etc.  She also runs about 1x/week.  And she was very upfront that as she gets older (she’s 46) it takes her longer to recover, she eats what she wants but proportionally (yes, she eats cake–but just a couple of bites), and she always finds/makes time to work out.

It was great to meet fellow bloggers and FitFluential Ambassadors, try out the new Koss Fit Series headphones, and learn more about Dara and how she stays fit and healthy.  Thanks to Koss for a high-energy morning!

The Fit Series headphones retail for $29.99 and are available for purchase at WalMart online at  If you purchase online, use the code Fit4Life to receive $5 off your purchase and free shipping, too!

This campaign is sponsored by Koss through FitFluential.  I did receive product; opinions expressed are my own.  Look for a full review next week.
