A round-up of odd’s and end’s today–
I took this quiz to find out if I’m as well-read as a 10th grader. I’m embarrassed to show you my score:
“You’re sort of well read. You could probably hold your own in a literary conversation, but perhaps not with today’s 15-year-olds”. What?! I was an Academic Decathlete and on the advanced track in high school. Apparently I need to beef-up my Goodreads queue!
Speaking of literary greatness, here’s a round-up of ‘Catching Fire’ Quotes – 15 inspirational and funny quotes from the second book in the trilogy. Catching Fire hits theaters November 22nd!
I’d like to figure out how to weave in “May the odds be ever in your favor” into a meeting at work.
I read a lot of healthy-eating related articles online, in magazines, etc. Sometimes it’s difficult to stay on top of what’s in, what’s out, what’s good, what’s bad. This is a fun chart showing 10 Nutrients Missing in Your Diet.

I didn’t do very well on that quiz either. They didn’t have a checkbox for “Watched the Movie” otherwise I’d have done a lot better!!

Happy Friday!!! I am not even gonna take the quiz because I’m sure it’ll make me depressed about my score- haha
If you notice, they are adopting a ‘new’ standard of what they ‘should’ be reading. That’s not to say they have been put in place by every school district and we grew up with different standards. ALSO, they did not have many of the classics I read in 10th, 11th or 12th grade…. For example (to name a few from each grade):
10th (honors): A tale of two cities, Huckelberry Finn, All quiet on the western front & others (I did read joy luck club this year)
11th (honors): Quite a bit of Emerson & thoreau (Transcendentalism), Emily Dickenson,
12th (AP eng): Gullivers Travels, Portrait of an Artist as a young man, Frankenstein, Hamlet & so much more…
So I wouldn’t worry too much about the score. Also you tend to forget things over the years so even if a 10th grader read 37 books in one year (unlikely), it is even more unlikely that they will remember everything that happened in every book even 5 years later.

I started the quiz but after the first 6 (none of which I’d read, 5 of which I’d never even heard of) I gave up. I knew where it was going.
I love to read but despised English class in high school and college. Oh well
It was a very long quiz!
